Application Form

Application form and prospectus can be obtained online or from the Admissions Officer, Omayal Achi College of Nursing, King Cross Road, Sathyamurthy Nagar, Avadi, Chennai - 600 062. Payment of Rs. 500/- (Rupees Hundred and fifty only) by DD / cash / Money Order drawn in favour of Omayal Achi College of Nursing.

1.  The last date to download M.Sc (N) application form is 30.01.2008.

2.  The last date to submit filled in M.Sc(N) application to the Office is 15.02.2008

Take printout in fullscape paper, fill the form and send it to the above mentioned address with DD / Money Order drawn in favour of Omayal Achi College of Nursing. Application forms without DD/Money Order will not be considered.

The Candidates should have

  1. Passed the qualification of B.Sc., Nursing Degree of Tamilnadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University or any other University accepted as equivalent there to.

  2. Should have registered with the State Nurses and Midwives Council.

  3. Should have two years of experience in a teaching hospital or in a College (or) in a school of Nursing (or) in a Community Health Programme. Out of the two years experience, atleast a minimum of six months should have been in the field of specialty chosen.

  4. In case of male candidates they should have passed any other course recommended by the Indian Nursing Council in place of Midwifery.

  5. Every candidate before admission to this programme shall submit to the Principal of the Institution a Certificate of Medical fitness from an authorised Medical Officer that the candidate is physically fit to undergo the academic programme and does not suffer from any disability or contagious diseases.

  6. Should submit Migration certificate, if they are from any University other than the Tamilnadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University.

  7. Should have minimum of 2 years experience after registration with their respective State Council.



Eligibility Certificate:

Candidates from other states shall obtain an eligibility certificate from the Tamilnadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University by remitting the prescribed fees along with the application form.

Medium of Instruction:

English shall be the medium of Instruction for all the subjects of study and for examinations of the M.Sc., Nursing Programme.

Registration:

A candidate admitted to the Programme shall register with the Tamilnadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University by remitting the prescribed fees along with the application form for registration duly filled in and forwarded to the above University through the head of the Institution within the stipulated date.



Commencemet of the Programme:

The Programme will commence during the month of July

  1. Filled in Application should reach the Office on or before 30th January 2002.

  2. Candidates will be selected on the basis of merit and experience by the College Selection Committee and their decision will be final.

  3. Candidates will be called for a Selection / Interview before admission.

Working Days in the Academic year and vacation:

Each academic year shall consist of not less than 200 working days. Vacation will be as per the University rules



Attendance:

The candidate should have 80% of attendance in theory and practicals separately and should have completed all the requirements prescribed for each course of study including clinical practice before admission to examinations.

  1. No candidate shall be permitted to any one of the parts of M.Sc., (Nursing) Programme unless he / she has attended the course in the subject for the prescribed period in an affiliated Institution recognised by Tamilnadu Dr. M.G.R.Medical University & produces the necessary certificate of study, attendance and progress from the Head of the Institution.

  2. A candidate lacking in the prescribed attendance and progress in any one subject in theory and practical in the first appearance shall not be admitted for admission to the entire examinations.

Condonation of lack of attendace:

There shall be no condonation of lack of attendance to post graduate programme.



Curriculum:

The curriculum and syllabus for the programme shall be as prescribed by the Standing Academic Board from time to time.

Scheme of Examinations:

Theory and Practical examinations shall be conducted as part I and part II at the end of the first year and second year respectively in subject as per the syllabus. If the candidate fails, he / she will be allowed to appear for subsequent examinations along with the failed subject.

Submission of dissertation:

The candidate shall submit a dissertation in the field of specialty, four months before the final examination for valuing and certification. The candidate is required to write a dissertation in his / her specialty.



Evaluation of dissertation:

The dissertation shall be valued by

  1. Professor of Nursing Research common to all the branches of specialty.

  2. Professor in clinical specialty.

  3. An external examiner with Nursing Research Experience who will be common to all.

The number of pages of dissertation should not exceed 60 pages. The viva should be arranged 2 weeks prior to the University Examinations.



Resubmission of Thesis:

Resubmission of thesis with corrections can be done within 6 months. Resubmission of thesis with total re-doing can be done within 2 years.

Internal Assessment and Modalities for award:

  1. There shall be an internal assessment in all subjects and marks for each subject will be according to the weightage given to each subject.

  2. College examinations along with marks of all evaluation will form the find grade for the internal assessment for the subjects. These marks should be submitted to the University two weeks before the commencement of the University examinations.

  3. Any candidate who fails in the internal assessment shall be given an opportunity to improve the internal assessment.



Award of Class:

The candidate who obtains

  1. 75% in aggregate is considered to have passed in first class with distinction

  2. 60% in aggregate is considered to have passed in first class.

  3. 50% in aggregate is considered to have passed.

  4. Below 50% is considered to have failed.

Eligibility for Award of the Degree:

The candidate will be awarded the degree of Master of science in Nursing when she / he has put in the prescribed courses of study for two years and successfully completed all the course requirement including the submission of dissertation.



Branches of study:

The following shall be the branches of study for M.Sc., Degree in Nursing.

BRANCH - I   : Medical Surgical Nursing
BRANCH - II  :Child Health Nursing
BRANCH - III : Maternity Nursing
BRANCH - IV : Community Health Nursing
BRANCH - V  : Mental Health Nursing

Submission of Application:

The application in the form prescribed should be completed and correctly filled in by the applicant in his / her own hand writing and sent by Registered post with acknowledgment due to the Admission Officer, Omayal Achi College of Nursing, King Cross Road, Sathyamoorthy Nagar, Avadi, Chennai - 600 062.

Xerox copies of certificates, mark sheets and documents should be attached to the application as mentioned in the application form.



Selection:

After scrutiny of applications, eligible candidates will be called for entrance test / interview.

Candidates will be selected in order of merit on the basis of marks obtained in the entrance test and selection interview held thereafter. The expenses for appearing for the written test / selection interview will be borne by the applicant only. The result will be displayed in the College notice board.

Admission secured on the basis of false information supplied will be cancelled and their fees forfeited. Admission notification will intimate the date of commencement of classes.

Students remaining absent for three consecutive days without prior intimation / permission shall forfeit their admission as well as fees. Eligibility certificate wherever applicable must be given.



Student Activities:

Students are expected to participate in all the activities organised by the college. Students are expected to become members of the T.N.A.I.

To use leisure time creatively and effectively, they are provided will facilities for indoor and outdoor games.

Every year picnics are arranged for students. Educational Trips will be arranged during the course and the students will have to bear the full expenses of the Trip.



Conduct and Discipline:

  1. Students are responsible to the Principle for their behaviour both in and outside the College.

  2. Students are required to maintain ethical and professional standard and behaviour.

  3. Students should make every effort to take care of the College Hostel and Hospital property.

  4. Students are required to abide by the rules and regulations laid by the Hospital, Hostel and College authorities.



Voluntary Withdrawal:

Students who voluntarily withdraw from the College shall be required to pay the full fees for the entire programme. The fees already paid will not be refunded.

Health Programme:

Each Student will undergo an annual medical checkup. If illness occurs during their programme they will be cared for in the hospital. Students who are found to have major health problems viz, cardiac problems, epilepsy, tuberculosis, infectious skin diseases, psychiatric problems or any other major illness will have to discontinue and the fees paid will not be refunded.

Uniform:

As prescribed by the College.


Hostel(Optional):

Students should not bring any valuables or jewellery. The College will not take any responsibility for loss or theft. Food will be provided in the Nurses hostel and on request for day scholars. No accommodation will be provided for men candidates.

Bond / Scholarship:

Scholarship with bond is available for meritorious candidates.
